Why You Love Being a Mom

A mom and dad play with their two children at a park.

Why do you love being a mom? In today's blog, best-sellling author and speaker Arlene Pellicane shares about her own experiences of motherhood and encourages other moms to pause and recognize all of the good they've done in their children's lives.

Why do you love being a mom?

Many times, we talk about the hard parts of being a mom.  The endless diapers and wipes, sleepless nights, sibling rivalry, piles of laundry, sassy teens, and goodness, what in the world am I serving for dinner tonight?

Sometimes we need a shake – a shift in perspective – to see the blessings and not the burdens.

I wanted to be a mom for several years before Ethan was born.  I struggled with infertility, but you don’t have to have that background to realize:  Wow!  It’s so amazing that I have a child!

Dropping off Ethan at kindergarten one morning, he was standing in line, waiting to enter the class.  He motioned for me to come.  Then he pointed to his cheek.

He wanted a kiss.

I kissed him and wrote about it in my journal.  I wanted to remember the day my son wanted me to come into the school line and give him a kiss.

Now Ethan’s in 8th grade and I don’t think he wants me coming near him at school for a kiss!

Let us ponder all the sweet things in our hearts and cherish being moms.

Think of the good stuff, not the bad.

Rehearse a gratitude list, not a grumbling list.

Praise God for what you have, not complaining about what you don’t have.

Smile at your children, don’t frown.

Have a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday.  Take a few moments today and remember why you love being a mom.
